Why Get MS in Biology in Dominican鈥檚 Research Intensive Program?

By Meredith Protas, PhD, MS Biological Sciences Director

老九品茶 is renowned for its School of Health and Natural Sciences and its stellar faculty. Program Director and Associate Professor Meredith Protas, PhD shares how the MS in Biological Sciences program prepares students for successful careers focused on biomedicine.

1. Acquire marketable skills

Our students perform hands-on research on different topics and acquire research skills such as cell culture, qPCR, mouse work and handling, Western blots, Immunohistochemistry, CRISPR genome editing, and much more.

2. Develop critical thinking skills and experience with the scientific method

Our students work on a thesis project testing a specific hypothesis and work with their mentors and other lab members to formulate experiments.  Following the scientific method is critical for a career in research and is instrumental in preparing our students for further schooling beyond their masters in biology such as PhD programs or medical school.

3. Contribute to scientific research with medical applications

Research that our students perform contributes to knowledge in important fields such as aging and disease which can ultimately result in treatments and have a profound impact on society.

4. Experience working as a team and independently

Our students work collaboratively with others within their laboratory. Also, toward the end of the program, students have more experience performing techniques and designing experiments independently.

Choose from a spring or fall start. Application submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis, and research spots are limited. Learn more about our program by attending a free online informational session.
